FAQ's
Why should I check a vehicle I am looking to buy?
A pre-purchase inspection is a terrific way to know exactly what you are buying.
You’ll learn what systems need repair or replacement. This knowledge can help
you decide whether to buy, walk away or bargain for the cost of needed repairs.
The car I am buying is Maryland Inspected do I still need a pre-purchase
inspection?
Yes, Yes and Yes! Maryland Inspection is a comprehensive safety inspection but
does not cover items such as:
- Condition of Engine and Transmission
- Heating, Cooling and A/C System
- Fuel Injection System
- Condition of Starter, Alternator and Battery
|
- Previous Accident Damage, Interior Water Leaks
- Neglected Maintenance and Condition of Fluids
- Operation of Power Accessories
- On Board Computer & Ignition Problems
|
Maryland Inspection is also a pass / fail situation so while some components
such as brakes, tires, exhaust, etc. may pass inspection today they may need to
be replaced in as little as 2-3 months. Our inspection alleviates all these
worries and more.
Will a car dealer let me take the car to my mechanic to be
inspected before I sign a contract?
Absolutely! Any reputable dealer will allow you to get a vehicle inspected. Do
not sign any contracts or documents until you have received a satisfactory
evaluation report. Some dealers will want you to sign a contract giving you
three to five days to return a vehicle if you are not happy – BEWARE in most
cases you cannot walk away from one of these deals, you will be obligated to
select another car from the dealer.
I am buying a vehicle from a reputable dealer who will
give me a six-month warranty; do I still need a pre-purchase inspection?
Yes, most dealers acquire used cars as trade-ins or purchase off-lease and
auction vehicles. These dealers don’t have the time or resources to perform a
200 point safety evaluation and in most cases it’s not cost effective. A
pre-purchase inspection can find existing and potential problems that may not
surface until the warranty has expired. We can also detect accident damage and
problems that may not be covered by a dealer's warranty.
How do I go about having a vehicle inspected & how long
does it take?
Inspections usually take 1 to l ½ hours to complete. After you have selected the
vehicle you wish to buy, call us at (301) 953-2886 to
schedule an appointment,
one day in advance. You may also Schedule Appointment On-line 24/7.
Can you tell if a vehicle has been wrecked?
Yes, in most cases we can tell by checking for paint work, mismatched paint,
paint blending, overspray, body repairs, panel misalignment, panel replacement
and frame damage.
I would like to get a pre-purchase inspection but I also
need a Maryland Inspection do I have to pay for both?
No, at your request we can complete the additional paper work that is required
by the state of Maryland and issue a certificate of inspection to obtain title
and tags for an additional $20.00 making your total cost $99.95
Will you tell me what the vehicle I am looking to buy is
worth?
No, that is not our area of expertise and we feel that pricing should be left
between the buyer and seller. We can however help you obtain the
NADA or Kelley
Blue Book Values.
Do you check to see if the odometer is correct?
While there is no true and perfect way to check for correct mileage readings,
odometer tampering can sometimes be detected by wear and tear on certain key
components. We will check these components and report any suspicious findings;
you may also want to consider getting a vehicle history report from
CarFax.
